Last year, audiences at Sundance Film Festival were shocked and awed by Going Clear, a stunning expose of Scientology. This summer, the inner workings of a destructive cult have been turned into another remarkable documentary to hit the independent movie showcase.

Filmmaker Will Allen, once the ad hoc archivist to the Buddhafield cult of Los Angeles, has used the footage he collected during his 22 years in the group, combined it with the current perspectives of himself and other former members, and presented us with a wild, touching, frightening, visually appealing and always thought-provoking record of life on the inside of a high-demand spiritual group – and the courage it took to get out. A poignant tale of seduction, betrayal, survival and healing, Allen’s movie is definitely on the “must-watch” list for this season.

What do you think? Do you agree? Have you seen Holy Hell? Do you have a movie you’d like us to review? We’d love to hear from you!
