Mike Finch, Ph.D.
Mike Finch spent the 1960’s as a drug-addled beatnik, ending up (sober) in a Buddhist monastery for a year (1969). He was then initiated into the cult of Prem Rawat (aka Maharaji). As a member of the cult for thirty years, he held many positions, some quite senior – like being Maharaji’s chauffeur, and initiating others into the cult. In 1987 he got a Ph.D. in Mathematics and Theoretical Physics. On leaving the cult in 2000, he became a Fellow of the International Society of Philosophers, spent more time in Buddhist monasteries, and wrote a book about his time in the cult: “Without the Guru: How I took my life back after thirty years”. He is now writing another book in the area where philosophy meets meditation.
